5 Biggest Movies of October 2019
Here’s what should be on your cinematic radar this month!

October is jam-packed with some pretty interesting releases, with the studios rolling in some of their big-hitters for the season. The highly-anticipated Joker gets its South African release, while Will Smith makes his return to the silver-screen for a CGI-packed action extravaganza.
Joker
Release date: 4 October 2019
There’s been a lot of buzz around Todd Phillips’ (The Hangover) Joker movie, with critics praising the film since its press screenings abroad. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic Batman villain, but instead of a blockbuster superhero film, Joker is more of a character piece that chronicles Arthur Fleck’s decent into madness.
Gemini Man
Release date: 11 October 2019
It’s essentially old Will Smith vs. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in this mind-bending sci-fi action film, whereby assassin Henry Brogan (Smith) is pursued by a mysterious young doppelgänger operative who seems to be able to predict Brogan’s every move. Clive Owen and Benedict Wong also star.
The Addams Family
Release date: 11 October 2019
Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler all lend their roles to an animated iteration of the beloved yet gothically-macabre Addams family. Directed by Sausage Party duo Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, the movie tells a new tale of the family, as they prepare for a huge family reunion while contending with a reality TV host trying to chronicle their lives.
The Extractors: Escape Plan
Release date: 25 October 2019
Anyone who’s a fan of Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan franchise will know that while they don’t provide the deepest of experiences, they’re fun, unpredictable, and often really enjoyable romps. The third instalment sees Sly’s prison escape artist Ray Breslin team up with Dave Bautista once again (the two appeared in 2018’s Escape Plan 2) in order to break out a Hong Kong businessman’s daughter from a Latvian prison.
Zombieland: Double Tap
Release date: 25 October 2019
A long time in development, the sequel to 2009’s Zombieland is hitting theatres this month, and once again stars the same unlikely foursome played by Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin as they continue trying to survive a zombie-apocalypse. This time, they have to ensure the growing-pains of their bizarre makeshift family, while learning to trust some new survivors on their journey.
