5 Massive Movie Sequels Still Coming Your Way in 2024
What are some of the biggest movie sequels heading your way throughout the remainder of 2024?
While we’ve already seen some stellar movies hit big-screens in 2024, the movie release schedule is still jam-packed with some exciting entries coming throughout the remainder of the year; and we’ve highlighted five of the most-anticipated sequels we can’t wait to get our eyes on.
Deadpool & Wolverine
Release date: 26 July 2024
The long-awaited third Deadpool film, titled Deadpool and Wolverine, sees Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) team up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) on an adventure through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The premise sees the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which we were introduced to in the Loki TV show, pull Deadpool from his quiet life and set him on a mission that will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine. Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen also star.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die
Release date: 7 June 2024
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back in the fourth Bad Boys film, titled Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The new entry into the action franchise sees the return of Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, as they have to clear their former Captain’s name. Joe Pantoliano (who played the beloved Captain Conrad Howard in previous entries) makes his return to the franchise too. The film is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who helmed the previous entry, 2020’s Bad Boys For Life.
Alien: Romulus
Release date: 16 August 2024
It’s been a little while since we’ve had a new entry into the beloved Alien franchise, but director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) is bringing the iconic sci-fi IP back with Alien: Romulus. Set in-between Alien and its 1986 sequel Aliens, Romulus follows a group of young space colonisers who, while scavenging a derelict space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu; and is produced by Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien.
A Quiet Place: Day One
Release date: 28 June 2024
John Krasinski’s 2018 horror film A Quiet Place and its sequel were a breath of fresh air in the genre, telling the story of a family desperate to survive in a world invaded by a blind alien race that only reacts to sound. We’re finally getting to see what actually happened the day that the invasion went down with the prequel A Quiet Place: Day One. The film stars Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou, and is written by Krasinski and Michael Sarnoski, with Sarnoski stepping into the director’s chair for this one.
Joker: Folie À Deux
Release date: 4 October 2024
Todd Philips’ 2019 Joker spin-off was a huge risk, telling the origin tales of Batman’s most beloved villains set in an alternate DC universe. The movie was a massive hit and the sequel, Folie À Deux, is set to expand this lore. Joaquin Phoenix returns to the role of Arthur Fleck / Joker with Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn. However, instead of a psychiatrist working in Arkham Asylum, this iteration of the character sees Quinn as a fellow asylum inmate with Arthur; her curiosity eventually turns to obsession and she forms a deadly romantic relationship with him.
