Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release date: 6 May 2022

After popping up in some other Marvel entries, Benedict Cumberbatch gets his full Doctor Strange sequel this May, titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Sam Raimi (the man behind the original Spider-Man trilogy), the film picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, whereby Strange has accidentally released an unspeakable evil, forcing him to face a friend-turned-enemy. It also stars Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Xochitl Gomez.

Operation Mincemeat

Release date: 6 May 2022

Starring Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen, Operation Mincemeat tells the story of the Allies’ 1943 mission to break Hitlerʼs grip on occupied Europe and plan an all-out assault on Sicily, but they face an impossible challenge – how to protect a massive invasion force from the potential massacre. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley, to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war – centered on the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.

Indemnity

Release date: 13 May 2022

A local action film with some serious flair, Indemnity follows a traumatised ex-firefighter in Cape Town who wakes up next to his wife’s murdered corpse, with no recollection of what transpired. Labelled as the prime suspect, he goes on the run and is soon hunted by a notorious police chief, and an unknown third party. He must now fight for his life and find out who killed his wife, before a conspiracy changes the course of a nation forever.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Release date: 13 May 2022

Already receiving incredible praise, Everything Everywhere All At Once is an action-comedy about an aging Chinese immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) who is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.

Top Gun: Maverick

Release date: 27 May 2022

It may have been a 33 year gap, but the follow-up to 1986’s Top Gun is releasing this May. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (who helmed the under-appreciated Tron: Legacy), the sequel continues the story of Captain Peter “Maverick” Mitchell and his fighter-pilot antics in a world where war is changing drastically. But, of course, there’ll be some 80s throwbacks, including an obligatory beach scene and some stellar bomber jackets on show.
