Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently raking in the box-office numbers thanks to its colossal opening weekend, and while people are still trying to work out their thoughts on the film (we really enjoyed it), Warner Bros. has suddenly dropped a brand-new unreleased scene from the film.

Now, this should go without saying – the new scene should be only for those who have seen Batman v Superman. So, the obligatory spoiler-warning stuff from here…

Uploaded to the Warner Bros. YouTube account, the video entitled “Communion” shows Lex Luthor in the Kryptonian ship that Zod brought to Earth in Man of Steel and the one that he used to create Doomsday. He is using the ship’s communication tool in the Genesis chamber to communicate with some monster-like being.

Fans are already wondering if this sequence hints at the arrival of Steppenwolf, one of the New Gods, as part of Darkseid’s plot to take over Earth. It sure looks like him. We suspect this scene would fit in at the end of the final battle with Doomsday, before Lex is arrested, had his head shaved, thrown in jail, and begins rambling to Batman that “he is coming”. The “he” is most likely Darkseid.

Zack Snyder has promised an “Unrated” director’s cut come home video with more than 30 minutes of material inserted back into the movie. Perhaps this sequence will be explained further. Maybe it won’t. It does suggest something sinister is afoot. We’ll just have to wait and see what.
