Fox appears to have listened to the pleas of fans, as the studio has announced that a live-action Deadpool movie has been green-lit, with a February 2016 release date.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Tim Miller, who’s been attached for a while, is directing. Ryan Reynolds is still the favourite to take the lead role, given his long-standing attachment to the project. But as of yet, he’s not confirmed in the role.

Reynolds last portrayed the merc-with-a-mouth in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although the character differed quite a bit from the comic-book source material.

The confirmation that Deadpool is happening comes after test footage of the film leaked a few weeks ago (embedded below). The reaction to said footage was strong, and might just have convinced Fox to give Deadpool a try.

Its so awesome that comic books broke into the mainstream. Batman has always been big but I think the X-men franchise really got things going as far as 10 to 15 years are concerned. Will be cool if there is a Deadpool movie.
