Hugh Jackman On Potential X-Men/The Avengers Crossover Movie
Wolverine himself talks about the idea of joining up with Marvel’s superhero team on the big-screen.
With some big moves happening in Hollywood regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hugh Jackman believes he could one day see his character of Wolverine sharing the screen with the Avengers.Speaking with Yahoo, Jackman said that given the deals that are being done between studios, anything is really possible.
“You know, I think as an optimist I would love it. That’s the best thing about comic books; you can just pitch these characters into each other.” said Jackman. “I’m surprised by what’s happened with Spider-Man joining. You’re in a very complex world where big, big sums of money are being spent for different franchises and so getting them together is difficult.
“Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’d ever happen, but weirdly now I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen.”
Jackman’s mention of Spider-Man’s involvement with the Avengers films is, of course, in reference to Sony and Marvel’s deal to bring the superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having Wolverine team up with a Marvel character(s) would require a similar deal between Marvel and Fox, which has the movie rights to Wolverine.
The interview concluded with Jackman being asked which specific Marvel character he’d like to see star alongside Wolverine. His answer? Iron Man. But only if the superhero were played by Robery Downey, Jr., as Jackman “can’t think of him as anyone else.”
Jackman will next appear in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie which hits cinemas in South Africa next week.
