Leo’s Back! 6 Must-Watch Movies of October 2023
Here are the movie releases to have on your radar this October.
The October movie slate brings some spooooky entries, with it being Halloween and all. But, on top of those fright-fests, we also get a new entry from acclaimed director Martin Scorcese, as well as some action-packed releases.
The Exorcist: Believer
Release date: 13 October 2023
The Exorcist: Believer is the first of two movies bringing one of horror’s most iconic franchises back to the big-screen. The Exorcist: Believer started out as a potential reboot for the famed series, but instead morphed into a sequel to the original set of films, starting all the way back with the 1973 classic; with Ellen Burstyn (one of The Exorcist‘s original actors) even reprising her role as Chris MacNeil. The film follows two girls who find themselves possessed by a powerful demonic force. Desperate, the parents go in search of someone who has had similar experiences to help them save their children from the grasp of the Hellish entity.

Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Morgan Freeman team-up in this action flick, which follows a tech blogger who unleashes the power of a time-altering device to rewrite the past and seek revenge a corporate empire that destroyed his family. However, his actions soon trigger a terrifying chain of events, propelling him into a pulse-pounding battle for survival where every second counts.
Dark Harvest
Release date: 13 October 2023
After being delayed a few years, Dark Harvest will see the light of day in October. The film is a chilling tale set in a cursed town, where every Halloween becomes a brutal battle for survival, because a supernatural creature, Sawtooth Jack, rises from the cornfields and makes its way toward town. The town’s ritual requires 18-year-old boys to try and kill the murderous scarecrow before midnight. Among the boys is Richie, a rebellious outcast yearning to break free from the town’s curse, driven by his brother’s victory the year before.
Killers of the Flower Moon
Release date: 20 October 2023
Martin Scorsese is back with his next big cinematic epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Killers of the Flower Moon tells the story of members of the Osage tribe in northeastern Oklahoma who are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major BOI investigation directed by a 29-year-old J. Edgar Hoover and former Texas Ranger Tom White.
Five Nights at Freddy’s
Release date: 27 October 2023
Based on the cult-hit video game, Five Nights at Freddy‘s stars Josh Hutcherson (who has two movies out this month) and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo). It follows Mike Schmidt, a troubled security guard, who accepts a night-time job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a once-successful but now abandoned family entertainment centre. However, little does he know, the restaurant houses four animatronic mascots, Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, that kill anyone who is still there after midnight.

John Cena and Alison Brie star in this somewhat goofy but fun-looking action comedy. Years after retiring from the Army, a Special Forces operator (Cena) takes a job providing security for a female journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to escape into the jungle together.
