Margot Robbie to Play Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad

After the news slipped out that Jared Leto is rumoured to be taking on the role of The Joker for the upcoming DC supervillian mash-up, Suicide Squad, it now appears that Margot Robbie is set to play the girlfriend/henchwoman of Batman’s long-time nemesis.

It was previously reported that The Wolf of Wall Street actress was close to signing onto the film, which will be directed by David Ayer, but Collider’s sources now say that Robbie will in fact be playing Harley Quinn.

For those who don’t know the character, she was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series as the Joker’s right-hand woman, and has gone on to become a popular rogue/anti-hero in her own right.  This will be the first time the character has ever been portrayed on the big screen

Will Smith and Tom Hardy are also apparently in talks to star in the film.

Suicide Squad opens in 2016.
