A hilarious getaway disaster, a glorious remake, and a star-studded comedy await us with this weekend’s big movie releases. We take a closer look at what’s hitting cinemas this Friday, 12 August 2016:

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates

Zac Efron and Adam Devine star in this bizarre yet based-on-a-true-story comedy which sees two delinquent brothers, Mike and Dave, who appear on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ after their ad to find dates for their sister’s upcoming wedding in Hawaii goes viral. While their parents believe their wayward sons will transform into perfect gentlemen, they soon realise that their dates, Tatiana and Alice, are twice as wild and unhinged.

We got the chance to see the movie early, and it really does live up to its promise, delivering a funny, heartfelt, and ridiculous romp through Hawaii. Definitely worth a watch if you’re looking for some laughs this weekend.

Pete’s Dragon

A remake of the 1977 Disney classic, Pete’s Dragon brings new Hollywood spectacle and visual effects to the beloved story of a boy who claims to live in the forest with a dragon, raining the sceptisicm and curiosity of a young forest ranger, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. The film is getting great reviews and any opportunity to relive a childhood favourite is a win in our books.

Florence Foster Jenkins

For those looking for a bit of high-brow humour and drama this weekend, Florence Foster Jenkins‘ great cast and tone should be an easy pick. The story of American socialite, Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress who realised her long-delayed musical ambitions of becoming an opera singer, despite her poor singing ability. Taking voice lessons, mixing in musical social circles and funding a club in New York, it was there that she dreamed of entertaining audiences. Hugh Grant, Meryl Streep, Rebecca Ferguson, The Big Bang Theory‘s Simon Helberg all star.
