Whether you’re in the mood for some over-the-top stunts, one-liners, tear-jerking drama, or some singing and dancing, this week’s movie releases have it all. We take a closer look at what’s hitting cinemas this Friday, 27 January 2017:

XxX: The Return of Xander Cage

While we await the release of Fast and the Furious 8 later this year, Vin Diesel tends to his other action-packed franchise in XxX: The Return of Xander Cage. In the third instalment, Diesel reprises the role of Xander Cage, the action sports star-turned secret agent, as he has to hunt down Pandora’s Box – a top-secret device that can take control of satellites orbiting Earth. We got the chance to see the film early, and it’s safe to say that it’s as bonkers as you’d have hoped. It doesn’t take itself too seriously (which is needed in film these days) and the action doesn’t let up throughout the whole ride. If you can suspend your disbelief and place your tongue firmly in your cheek, you’ll enjoy this explosive sequel.

Collateral Beauty

Will Smith, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Michael Peña, Naomie Harris, Jacob Latimore, Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren all star in Collateral Beauty, which tells the story of a New York advertising executive (Smith) who suffers a great tragedy and retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. But it”s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.
