Neill Blomkamp Introduces Cinema’s Most Horrifying Monster in ‘Zygote’
It’s Alien meets The Thing in Bloemkamp’s sci-fi horror short film.
If you’ve been following South African director Neill Blomkamp’s movements lately, you’ll know he’s branched away from the mainstream Hollywood bureaucracy and launched Oats Studios – an independent film company focusing on “experimental” sci-fi shorts, and they’re good. Very, very good.
The first film, Rakka has already racked up 3.2 million views on YouTube and has received a great response from fans. The second film, entitled Firebase, arrived on YouTube too, and jumps back in time to 1970s in the height of the Vietnam war, and throws some horrifying monsters in for good ‘Bloemkamp’ measure.
The third film, Zygote, has to be the most terrifying and bizarre of them all, and arguably the best, with Blomkamp’s inspirations of Alien and The Thing clearly evident here. Dakota Fanning and Jose Pablo Cantillo star in the 22-minute film, which you can watch, below:
The South African director has a great knack for creating suspense and mystery around these sci-fi ideas, and we can’t wait to see more. If you’d like to support Oats Studios and what they’re doing, check out their official site.
