Spider-Man: Homecoming Killed it at the SA Box-Office! Here’s How Much Money it Made
It’s official – SA loves Spidey!
Spider-Man: Homecoming is a pretty damn good movie and making quite the big splash. How big though? Well, South Africans seem to have taken the critical reception seriously (we absolutely loved it) and put their money where their mouths are, making it the biggest opening weekend in history for the Spider-Man franchise in SA.
The film only released in South Africa last week, on Friday, 7 July, but has already accrued over R8.2 million in gross box-office takings. It may sound like small change compared to the rest of the world, but it’s a great pull for the local audience.
While Homecoming is bringing in the numbers, it still has a little way to go to catch up with this year’s other big earners. According to the most recent box-office numbers, Fate of the Furious managed to rake in R72 million. Not bad for a franchise’s eighth entry. Despicable Me 3 has over R 20.7 million in earnings, and Wonder Woman was sitting on the R17 million mark.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently playing at cinemas countrywide in 2D, 3D, IMAX and 4DX.
