Those who love supersized viewing experiences will be excited to know that the next blockbuster film to receive the full-on IMAX treatment is Taken 3, which is releasing on Friday, 16 January.

This third and final instalment in the Taken trilogy can be seen in IMAX theatres at Ster-Kinekor’s cinema complexes at Gateway in Durban, The Grove in Pretoria East and the recently-opened Cape Gate in Cape Town.

The IMAX release of the film has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience using proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Taken 3 sees Liam Neeson returning to the big screen as ex-government operative Bryan Mills. As the film opens, his life is shattered when he is falsely accused of a murder that hits close to home. Pursued by a savvy police inspector (Forest Whitaker), Mills employs his own ‘particular set of survival skills’ to track the real killer and exact his unique brand of justice.

Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, Mills goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must track down the real killers and exact justice to protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter (Maggie Grace).

I don’t think that Taken 3 is going to be worthy of IMAX. Interstellar must have been nuts on IMAX.

Ya, the Taken series is not exactly a visual spectacle, but the audio should be pretty rad.

I don’t know if good audio is worth shelling out the cash for an imax ticket hey. Why is there no imax in johannesburg?
