Tom Hardy Confirmed to Play Spider-Man Villain, Venom
Hardy lands his next super-villain role.
Sony has dropped a pretty big bombshell, announcing that Tom Hardy is officially set to play Eddie Brock in the upcoming Venom movie, which will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, best known for helming Zombieland.
Sony took to Twitter to announce that Hardy will be leading the R-rated adaptation, simply titled Venom.
Alongside the news that The Revenant actor will be taking on the role of the iconic Spider-Man villain, Sony also confirmed that they are starting their own cinematic universe, currently dubbed Sony’s Marvel Universe, which will not be connected to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe featuring the Avengers and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Sony and Marvel Studios have a contract deal to allow for Peter Parker/Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (hence Spider-Man’s cameo in Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming) with Holland playing the character at least through the end of 2019.
