Tron Legacy

Tron fans have reason to celebrate, as 5 years after the 2010 sequel to Disney’s Tron (1982), we know have confirmation that the third movie has received the green light from Disney and is likely to start filming in the third quarter of 2015.

Tron has become a cult hit since its debut over three decades ago and its sequel Tron: Legacy achieved sufficient success at the box office to warrant revisiting the franchise. A third installment has been rumored for some time but no official details had been released until earlier this week via The Hollywood Reporter.

Garrett Hedlund, who starred as Sam Flynn reprises his role, as does Olivia Wilde who played the mysterious and quirky Quorra. Another familiar face is director Joseph Kosinski, returning to the helm after directing the fun and visually stunning Legacy. There has been no formal announcement regarding the involvement of Jeff Bridges (Kevin Flynn) or Bruce Boxleitner (Tron). Tron : Legacy ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger in the sense that including or excluding Bridges are both viable options, with Boxleitner’s inclusion being more unlikely.

The jury is still out on whether or not Daft Punk will return to make another epic soundtrack, same goes for another futuristic nightclub scene. But we can hope!
