Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Gets its First Explosive, Slow-Mo-Packed Trailer

Man of Steel and 300 director Zack Snyder has been hard at work on his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, which is set for a Netflix debut, and the first trailer has been released.

Initially, Rebel Moon started out as a mature Star Wars spin-off when Snyder pitched it to Disney and Lucas Film a few years back, but over time, plans changed and it became its own thing. Rebel Moon therefore has no connection to the Star Wars universe, but does share similar themes and some alien-esque imagery, but Snyder being able to flex his creative muscles away from the Disney-machine was probably the best thing for Rebel Moon, as it looks pretty unique.

The story follows a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force. Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.

Alongside Boutella, the film stars Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, and others.

Rebel Moon will also be broken into two parts, with Part 1 hitting Netflix on 22 December 2023, and Part 2 on 19 April 2024.
