With the Varsity Football going into the semi-finals this week, we thought it was a great moment to sit back, relax, and soak up some of the best bits from this season’s action:

The fiery skills!

While Varsity Football might not have names like Ronaldo, Messi and Tau, it does have the skills! The university teams love nothing more than dazzling the crowd and confusing their opposition with some dance moves on the ball.

The fans!

Yeah, Dortmund and Liverpool might have pretty rowdy fans, but could they sing their lungs out on a cold night in Pretoria? University pride is massive in Varsity Football, with the fans battling through winter weather and impending assignment deadlines to show their spirit.

The Commentary

The commentators are just about as excited about the games as the fans, as heard in this video of UJ star Mokete Mogaila netting a pearler against Wits in the third round of the competition.

And of course, the goals!

The goals have been electrifying this season with the likes of UJ’s Mogaila, TUT’s Lebogang Phatlane and UP-Tuks’s Chinedu Okolo all scoring some beauties. Below is an example of Okolo scoring maybe one of the greatest headers of all time.

The Varsity Football semi-finals take place on Thursday, 13 September with UP-Tuks hosting TUT at 16:00pm at the Tuks Stadium, while the second semi-final spot will see another derby as UJ host Wits at 18:15 at the UJ Soweto campus, both live on SuperSport.
