The Quiksilver Pro kicked off last weekend in Gold Coast Australia, as the first stop of the ASP world tour.  Kelly Slater, Joel Parkinson and Owen Wright are a few amongst surfing’s biggest names competing in this event, which is taking place at Snapper Rocks, Queensland.

ASP’s top surfers were expected to set the standard as round one began, but who would have thought that these guys would need to watch out for South Africa’s very own, Jordy Smith, who has carved his way into the quarter finals.  From the get-go, Smith (24) dominated the first round by scoring an 8.3 and a 9.10, out of a possible 10, on his opening two waves, and throughout the competition has been knocking out big names such as Joel Parkingson (2011’s ASP Runner Up), Taylor Knox and Raoni Monteiro.

Today marks day 5 of the Quiksilver Pro, with Jordy Smith still set to compete in round 5.  With his opening statements and unmatched style, we have no doubt that our boy will make it, not only in this competition, but the rest of the ASP world tour.
