Surfing: Quiksilver’s Goodwave Ready to Rock Durbs
Goodwave 2012 is back by popular demand and is ready to rock Durbs any day now.
Back by popular demand, Quiksilver’s Goodwave invitational is back in Durban after a year of absence in 2011. This unique event invites 32 of South Africa’s finest surfers to compete for R25 000 on the single best day of surf between 1 March and 31 August.
It’s usually during the time of Cyclone season that this event runs, which means that it could take off any day now in one of the three selected venues: Durban’s New Pier, North Beach and the Bay of Plenty.
The event is one of the most anticipated on the surfing calendar in South Africa, for the reason that it’s not about the ‘perfect wave’ but more about the best surfers surfing in good, clean conditions.
“I am super stoked that Quiksilver have decided to put this world class event back on. I looked forward to every year when it was running and I think it is awesome for the sport, people drop everything to come down to watch and the competitors are equally fired up to surf pumping New Pier with only three other guys in the water,” said former winner Simon Nicholson about the re-introduction of the event.
