With the Rugby Championship having concluded, Bok fans got a good look at the 2023 Springbok jersey in action, but with the Rugby World Cup around the corner, a specialised tournament jersey will be released; and while it does piggy-back on many of the same elements on the general Test season jersey, it does have some unique features to it.

The 2023 Rugby World Cup jersey will mark the first World Cup jersey that the American brand will design for the South African side as part of the new six-year deal between Nike and SA Rugby – which includes also includes the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The iconic Swoosh previously appeared on the national team’s Rugby World Cup jersey back in 2003.

The new RWC jersey is similar to the version that was worn during the Springboks’ matches against Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina in the Rugby Championship, but loses the MTN sponsorship logo and features the Rugby World Cup emblem on the chest area in place of the Springbok logo (customary for World Cup jerseys).

It also features the Wiliam Webb Ellis trophy on the right sleeve, with the championship years below it (1995, 2007, and 2019). The Springbok logo has been shifted to the left sleeve.

Like the normal Test jersey, the RWC edition also features the trademark green, with some subtle vertical stripes down the chest and stomach area, with an old school collar and arm cuffs featuring the yellow colour accents.

A small detail on the collar shows the South African flag imprinted under the fold, which is a nice touch by Nike. Furthermore, as an acknowledgement of the team’s spirit, the phrase “Stronger Forever” is inscribed on the inside collar.

There are some small grip elements on the chest too, which sit below the centralised Nike logo.
