RoboCop Star Joins Suicide Squad, Ready To “Blow People’s Brains Out”
David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie gets a dose of RoboCop as Joel Kinnaman joins the already-epic cast.
It’s official: Joel Kinnaman, who stared in last year’s RoboCop reboot, will take on the role of Rick Flag in the upcoming super-villain mash-up movie, Suicide Squad.
The role was originally linked to Tom Hardy, although the Dark Knight Rises star dropped out of the project. It was then offered to Jake Gyllenhaal, who passed on the opportunity; so now it’s up to Kinnaman to bring the gun-toting madman to the big-screen. Kinnaman revealed the news to Allocine.
Written and directed by Fury and End of Watch‘s David Ayer, Suicide Squad is set to also star Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The film will hit theaters in August 2016.
Speaking of Delevingne, director David Ayer recently tweeted some pics of the model on the set of the movie, along with some pics of Jared Leto’s new hairstyle as he prepares to become the Joker.

Originally created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the group was retooled into its current iteration as villains working off their sentence by John Ostrander. The team has included countless DC villains (and heroes) among its ranks throughout the years. It’s also been a staple of recent DC media, “Arrow” introduced their own version of the team in the most recent season of the series and the recent animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, offered another version of the team.
