EA and Maxis have finally announced a new SimCity at this year’s Game Developers Conference.

Despite a few mobile and tablet spin-offs, the acclaimed building simulator has been absent from fully-fledged releases since 2003’s SimCity 4.

Simply known as ‘SimCity’, the game is said to be running off the Maxis’ new Glassbox engine which “powers each simulation with real integrity in order to capture the world we live in today”.

The game is set to act as a reboot for SimCity as it’s described as: “a true rebirth of the franchise that brings the depth of simulation that has been the series hallmark for more than two decades and marries it with next generation accessibility and a robust multiplayer mode, giving players the power to change a world together.”

SimCity will also feature a consequence system, which will reward players for intelligent choices, or make them face their not-so-thought-out decisions down the line.

The trailer is clearly not representative of actual gameplay (stated at the end of the clip), but if the concept is anything to go by, we could be in for a serious injection in the simulation genre come 2013.
